FarmVille Tips for Leveling Up the Fastest and Reaching Level 70
Many farmers ask, "What is the quickest way to level up and reach Level 70?". While the coveted Level 70 can be hard to reach for some, diligence proves necessary to reach higher levels, so just keep farming! FarmVille Freak Randy, put together his own guide of useful tips for farmers hoping to reach Level 70. To some veteran farmers these tips may seem elementary, but then again you are probably already a Level 70 farmer. These tips are most useful for those newbies and mid-level farmers that are struggling to level up.
Here is some background information about FarmVille Freak Randy's farming experience:
"My girlfriend got me started on Farmville because she had been playing since August of 2009. Eventually, I gave in to her FarmVille invitations and joined in October 2009. Some of my neighbors and my girlfriend were at around Level 30. I was only looking for fun but when I saw my Level increase so quickly through the lower Levels, I started getting into it. In time, I decided I would try to overcome my neighbors that were 30 levels (so about 50,000 points) ahead of me. Now I am the first of my neighbors to reach Level 70. My closest competitor (my girlfriend) is at Level 68. The next highest neighbor is at Level 51 200,000 points behind me. How did I do it? Read my tips below." -FarmVille Freak Randy
FarmVille Freak Randy's Strategies Found Useful & to Keep Interest on Way to Level 70:
Says FarmVille Freak Randy, "However, this is only important if you want to reach Level 70. If you're more interested in playing the game for decorations, that is also a legitimate reason to play. But if you're looking to compete with your neighbors, you may find these or other strategies helpful. Be forewarned: If you're not interested in anything else but leveling up, Level 70 will be very bittersweet for you. My interest has waned, but I'm still trying to master every crop available.
If you're already at Level 70 or speeding your way towards it, these tips may seem elementary. However, they may not come as easily to every farmer. So these tips are especially designed to help out farmers who are struggling to get to Level 70."
The Most Important Point: Planting 4 Hour Berries
The marginal benefit (for points-not coins) is highest for the four hour crops. It seems obvious, but none of my neighbors have considered it. Even if you plant Peas and get 3 XP + 1 XP for plowing per plot, in the same amount of time you could plant 4 rounds (in 16 hours if you have the free time, 6 rounds if you are an insomniac) of Strawberries and receive more points.
If you plant four rounds of Strawberries in sixteen hours, you will get 4 XP + 4 XP for plowing= 8 XP per plot. If you have a field of 450 plots, that adds up to 3,600 XP in one day or 25,200 XP in a week.
Thinking this way, the fastest way to Level 70 (without spending your way there) is to constantly plant Strawberries, Raspberries, Blueberries, and/or Blackberries.
Yes, even Raspberries. Though you don't get any points for planting the crop, you will still get 1 XP per plot for plowing, which leads to 2 XP per plot every 4 hours which is the same amount of points that you get from the 4 hour berries.
Plowing most of your farm
I have the largest size farm available and at one time had all but one row plowed. The more plots, the more points per planting and plowing.
Mastering Crops
It brings in a decent amount of XP points and coins and it kept my interest. I made a fence out of my mastery signs. I have 38 of them now.
The Ribbons
The reasonable ones, at least kept me interested.
Close competition
Several times my girlfriend passed me and our friendly competition kept me interested in the game.
If you are in close competition with one of your neighbors, buying decorations may give you an edge. I usually chose to buy windmills (100,000 coins, 1,000 XP points). However, my girlfriend took this strategy too far. When I reached Level 70, I had about 5 million coins. She is at Level 69 and only has 160,000 coins. When she reaches Level 70, she won't have enough money to buy a Villa or any other buildings or decorations.
Blocking your Farmer Avatar
Setting up a farmer block to trap your farmer saves so much time and keep your neighbors happy when they come to visit. –> Read more about Blocking your farmer here.
Things I found unhelpful on my way to Level 70:
Neighbors
I only have 35 neighbors and only 5 of them are active. They were, however, useful for the Christmas, St. Patrick's Day, and Easter events. You only need the pre-requisite amount to be able to expand your farm and buy certain items (For example, with 35 neighbors I can't buy a second Market Stall with coins).
Decorating
It wastes valuable space that could be used for planting.
Spending real money on Farmville Cash
I didn't spend any real money on Farmville Cash on my way to Level 70.
The only Farmville Cash I spent (that was earned from leveling up) was to expand my farm when I was in the low levels and for one of the Seeds for Haiti events. I now have 49 Farm Cash and can't find anything I want to buy.
Note: Purchasing items that are farm cash only tend to yield higher amounts of XP based on the farm cash purchase and exclusivity.
Animals
They don't give much money and don't give any points
Golden Chickens and the three new chickens are the exception because they bring in a lot of money-but still no XP points. I have a Huge Coop full of Golden Chickens and a few of the new Chickens that brings in 3,840 coins a day.

Thanks again for sharing your tips with everyone FarmVille Freak Randy! FarmVille will be celebrating its very first birthday soon when it turns one on June 19th 2010. Within this year many farmers have already reached Level 70 and are anxious for more levels and more challenges. Upon reaching Level 70 there is no special celebration or reward. After all that clicking, plowing, planting, harvesting and thousands of XP later the event proves to be under-whelming and slightly disappointing. There are no new items to unlock, no more new levels (yet), and no more 1 free farm cash for leveling up.
Has Zynga forgotten about their most prized players? No, we already know that they have intentions of adding more levels in the future, but exactly when is unknown. FarmVille Freak supports the introduction of new levels and all the Level 70 farmers out there still waiting. As their XP continues to accumulate, reaching way beyond the minimum for Level 70, we can only hope that when new levels come out they will automatically level up based on the obtained XP that is quietly waiting to be counted.

Cafe World to Disable Accounts Using Bots and Illegal Programs, is FarmVille Next?
While browsing the Cafe World Forum, FarmVille Freak moderator Dark Farmer stumbled upon some interesting news. Another Zynga game, Cafe World, announced via their official forum that they have detected users using illegal programs to enhance game play and are planning to disable accounts using such programs. These programs include: modifiers, bots, cheats, and hacks which violate Zynga's Terms of Service and are affecting the ability to connect to servers for some players.
They have developed a code to detect players using these illegal programs and will disable their accounts. Once your account has been disabled, you will have to contact customer service to resume game play. Some accounts may be reset to "normal" and be further suspended. Their goal is to enhance game play for all users and increase the accessibility and decrease in-game errors.
What does this mean for FarmVille? Could this be a future step for FarmVille as well?
Read excerpt from Official Cafe World Forum below:
"Hiya chefs,
In an effort to clean up some issues affecting the performance of our game servers we detected several programs or sources trying to access the application to change the normal game play experience. These programs, modifiers, bots, cheats, hacks, etc. are a violation to Zynga's Terms of Service, see Usage Rules, and have been affecting all users ability to connect to our servers.
We have implemented code to detect users enhancing their game experience by using programs of this type. Once an account has been detected it will be disabled until the end user contacts our Customer Support team. Accounts disabled may be reset to "normal" game play conditions and be noted for potential suspension if other violations occur.
Our intention is to keep our game world clean of modifiers and enhancement programs as well as optimize the performance for all of our café owners. If you experience any trouble with your Café World account and need assistance please contact our Customer Support team.
Our desire is that everyone that plays Café World have an enjoyable experience and we thank you for your continued support.

FarmVille: Halloween half-off discount sale ends tomorrow
FarmVille Halloween 50% discount sale
All of FarmVille's twenty-six Halloween costumes and thirty-eight decorations are expiring from the market in two days, and were being sold at 50% off since the holiday began. Players who bought these special Limited Edition items before the sale started are, understandably, a bit pissed off about this, but there's also players who are glad there's a sale, considering that "FarmVille normally isn't too lean with Farm Cash giveaways or cut-downs."
Since a lot of folks spent the holiday weekend away from their computers, Zynga's decision to keep the items in the stores for two more days after Halloween, and at a 50% discount, is a pretty good move on their part. Players will have until tomorrow night to take advantage of this offer.
The FarmVille Mystery Game, which was updated with Gothic items last week, is also set to leave the store after this sale is over. However, two of the new Halloween crops, Black Roses and Candy Corn, remain available with no expiration time attached. The Candy Corn is still selling for 20 Coins, while the Black Roses remain at 2 Farm Cash for a pack of 20 seeds.

FarmVille Baby Dragon now available in store
In a quiet update, Zynga has added yet another item to the Agricultural Alchemy theme in FarmVille, and this is an item we've known was coming for some time.
The item is the Baby Dragon, which we looked at alongside the Griffin (and other animals) on the 16th of this month. Now, the Baby Dragon is available to purchase from the game's store for 20 Farm Cash (or you can gift one to a friend if you feel so inclined). The Baby Dragon can be harvested from every two days.
As this item was released separately from the other Agricultural Alchemy items, its time limit in the store is also different from the rest of the theme. The original release of AA items will only be available for the next 8 days, but you can pick up this Baby Dragon for the next 18 days.
It's not very often that Zynga releases a new item outside of the regular update window (that being Tuesdays and Thursdays), and we'll be sure to let you know if and when they do it again.

Chinese FarmVille players receive exciting new gifts
If you've become one of the many FarmVille players that have taken on managing two farms since the release of Chinese FarmVille, you'll be happy to know that you're about to be rewarded for your devotion to the game. While this reward is available even to those that are just trying FarmVille for the first time, it's always nice to have a little something special appear in your gift box.
Be on the lookout for an email from Zynga, rewarding you with a Giant Panda and a "Care Package" for use in Chinese FarmVille. The Care Package contains 1 Unwither, 1 Fuel, 3 Farm Cash, and 1 White Goat. Both this and the Giant Panda were made available in the standard version of FarmVille in the past, but are currently unavailable, so it's interesting to see them show up here.
What's more - these items are available to all FarmVille Chinese players through universal links, so click here for the Giant Panda, and here for the Care Package, if you have yet to receive an email about receiving them in your own FarmVille Chinese game.
Could Zynga be using Chinese FarmVille as a sort of testing ground, to see if standard FarmVille users would be interested in seeing a re-release of such items? Keep checking back with us for more as we find out.

FarmVille Snowman produces Watering Cans again, but not for long
Many of you FarmVille farmers may have noticed that the buildable Snowman stopped producing Watering Cans when harvested for use on Mystery Seedlings. According to FarmVille Freak, this was an intentional move by Zynga in preparation for its changes to the Orchard. In response to player backlash, Snowmen have been turned "back on" for three weeks, but the developer is still moving forward with its changes to Orchards.
Soon, Orchards will be the place to find Watering Cans for those Mystery Seedlings. If you've already deleted your poor Snowman in a fit of rage, Zynga says that all you need to do is contact customer service and they can restore that for you. But don't get too attached, because come three weeks from now it'll be time to say goodbye to Frosty all over again.

Zynga's RewardVille: Is it working as intended?
Perhaps it's already old news, but Zynga officially launched its RewardVille service over the weekend. Players can now be rewarded with zCoins for playing the gamut of Zynga games. It appears that this new service is designed to replace the cross-promotional Goals and missions that were so popular between games like FrontierVille and Mafia Wars in 2010. But is RewardVille working any better than those did? Does Zynga even care?
FarmVille forum contributor Annabelle Smitty asks in a nine-page thread, "Has RewardVille been successful at getting you back into [games you once gave up on]?" Several players have emphatically answered to the contrary while a few admitted that, yes, it has caused them to pop in on games like Treasure Isle for more zCoins towards new items. However, another player, Shini2, sums up what I think is more likely the case: "Well, it's not as bad as I thought. For those games I can just do a few specific things, and it's not that hard to get my 80 points. By this I mean that I don't really have to get into the games. Just spend like 15 minutes each."
Money!Isn't that what you do, anyway? It's pretty difficult to believe that RewardVille has magically reignited the old flames most of you had with Vampire Wars or PetVille. It's more likely that most players behave just like Shini: They'll log into each game and play for the 15 minutes required to net the 80 points and jump right back into their main crush whether it be CityVille or something else. This is because it's an incentive-based system. Once players find out that all they have to spend in one of these games is a few minutes for those points, that's all Zynga will have them for. And that's OK, because we're human (and naturally opportunistic).
However, a multi-billion dollar company like Zynga didn't get where it is now by accident. Perhaps Pincus and his crew know exactly what they're up to. Zynga already realizes that a vast majority of its gamers simply does not have time to keep track of more than one game. That said, it's understandable for the company to make the requirements for acquiring points in other games so simple and fast.
More importantly, it doesn't matter how long a player is logged into a game--that data is automatically recorded by websites like AppData. If even half of FarmVille's daily active players cosign to RewardVille, that's a boost worth millions in "new" users for games that are miles behind Zynga's top three. That could translate into more promotional and advertising opportunities as well as even better standing in the leader boards. Maybe, just maybe, everything is going according to plan.

What do you think of RewardVille so far? Do you think Zynga intended for it to work this way or the players have already exploited it?

Hardcore Facebook games could grow five-fold by 2013
While I would consider FarmVille as hardcore an experience as they come for dedication's sake, that's not what this study by Social Times Pro has in mind. All Facebook reports that the market for games like Kabam's Kingdom's of Camelot and Backyard Monsters by Casual Collective will increase five times in just the next two years. As of right now, the total hardcore social game player base is about 20 million--by 2013 that number could soar to 100 million. And according to Casual Collective CEO Will Harbin, making it happen is as easy as making games that hardcore gamers want to play.
"[We] just need to make games they're not embarrassed to play," Harbin said to All Facebook. "As quality of the content increases... we'll see a lot of growth in the male gaming market." Ah-ha, so that's who you're looking at? If this is the case across the board, you can probably expect more stereotypically violent social games in the future. And while Harbin admits that these types of games have player bases that are dwarfed by the likes of FarmVille and CityVille, he claims that the hardcore audience is more likely to spend than your average digital farmer.
Social Times Pro study
According to All Facebook, Casual Collective's Backyard Monsters raked $30 thousand more a day after the company announced and released weapon upgrade. He expects that by 2013, 30 percent of the top monthly Facebook game charts will be male dominated games. That is entirely possible due to the expected increases in daily players, which would boost monthly numbers by default. But what's more interesting is Harbin's estimation that Zynga will not enter the hardcore social game market. You better hope that you're right about that, Harbin, because Zynga has quite a few studios with hardcore backgrounds, probably just waiting to make Facebook's proverbial StarCraft.

FarmVille for iPhone is faster than ever, but misses the point
Until recently, iOS has been a thorn in Zynga's side since it launched FarmVille on Apple's iPhone in June 2010. It was a brilliant concept at launch, but the game was nearly unplayable until the company finally released Version 2.0 this past March. Admittedly, it's still littered with loading bugs and out-of-sync errors are almost expected upon planting too many crops at once. But for every improvement and every glitch, Zynga is missing a golden opportunity with FarmVille for iOS.
For all intents and purposes, FarmVille for iPhone is a way to play the game when you're not in front of the computer screen. Unfortunately, what functionality the game does serve stops there. (Considering the amount of limitations dropped on you when playing on iPhone.) But even if Zynga were to introduce the ability to visit friends who don't play FarmVille on iOS, it still wouldn't be enough. Simply put, FarmVille for iOS, for being a social game, takes no advantages of being on a mobile device.
iPhone gamingThis is where Zynga would do well to take a cue from Nintendo and its 3DS, which through SpotPass and StreetPass can play games with nearby handhelds. The iPhone--and most smartphones, for that matter--have two unique advantages over standard PCs: being extremely mobile and aware of their surroundings. The latter means that through technologies like geo-location or even Bluetooth, devices like the iPhone can recognize and report their exact location in reference to their surroundings, most notably other phones. Just look at iPhone apps like Bump, which uses Bluetooth to find other devices nearby and shares contact information. Is there any reason why FarmVille for iPhone couldn't use the same technology?
Of course it would be a difficult feat, but not really. A scenario: You're waiting in line at mall to buy that hot new shirt you just picked up on clearance. Like any self-respecting FarmVille fan, you pop out the iPhone and start playing only to be greeted with a pop-up that reads "There are three farmers near you right now. Would you like to become their friend?" You click "Accept" and then check off the names of those nearby to add them as Facebook friends. Seconds later, you're visiting their farm and fertilizing their crops before it's even your turn in line.
Better yet, you're on the train and, while playing FarmVille, you receive a pop-up message that reads, "Calling all nearby farmers! My Chickens need to be fed! Can you help me?" Mind you, this player in need isn't even your friend, but a nearby farmer used the Bluetooth or even 3G connection in their phone to broadcast a message to nearby FarmVille players. You can help them just that once and be done with it or it could spark a conversation, and hopefully a new friendship (beyond Facebook, of course). This was the original goal of PC-based social games, no?
FarmVille for iPad
Developers and players alike have been crying out for a more organically social experience through Facebook games. Well, here it is folks. Connecting with those immediately around you is about as organic as social gets, but this is impossible in not only FarmVille for iOS, but all Zynga games for mobile devices. So, what are we waiting for? Organic social connections through Facebook gaming simply isn't happening on a wide scale through standard PCs and browsers. What's worse is that it likely never will given the immense profits sucked from the current model. Mobile is where social games will truly become social, and Zynga better hop on it fast before the horde of developers (in a distant second place) do.

FarmVille Sneak Peek: Badger Ewe, Welsh Animals, and Cherry Trees
In case you hadn't noticed, Zynga has been pushing out FarmVille updates faster than you can say, "Where the heck did my Farm Cash go?" And, according to FarmVille Feed, more is on the way. First are these two brand new Trees, the Bird Cherry and Wild Cherry Trees, whose artwork appears to be unfinished. Either way, expect these two fruit-bearers to pop up in Mystery Seedlings soon enough. But wait, there's more--the fan site has spied a brand new Sheep pattern and two new animals to look forward to.
You can already imagine that the Welsh Cow and Welsh Pony will appear in the English Countryside, given their origins. FarmVille Feed estimates that this black bovine will cost between 24 and 26 Farm Cash, and should be coming soon considering Zynga already created an animation for them.
The Welsh Pony is expected to run for the same amount of Farm Cash, and it too has a completed animation, meaning it should hit the Market sooner rather than later. Keep in mind that it's entirely possible for these Animals to be released through the Mystery Game or other means.
Finally, the Badger Ewe, a brand new Sheep pattern, might soon be released to the Market. FarmVille Feed estimates that this pattern is Zynga's official response to the "Masked Sheep" that was bred illegally before. Unfortunately, this means the do-gooders will have to pay up in Farm Cash. Ultimately, the release of all three animals raises an important question: Will they ever stop chewing?
