Finally, all future Facebook privacy changes will be opt-in, not opt-out

Facebook games and privacy have been something of, well, we'll just say it: a pain in the ass more times than not. Even as recently as this summer, changes to the games platform had players scrambling to protect their privacy. And while we almost always find workarounds, it simply shouldn't have to be that way. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg finally (if reluctantly) agrees with that.

From this day forward, all changes to Facebook that might affect users' privacy will be opt-in, meaning users will have to agree to the change before it can take place within their profile or an app. According to a statement made by the US Federal Trade Commission, Facebook is "required to obtain consumers' affirmative express consent before enacting changes that override their privacy preferences."

This settlement is the result of charges issued against Facebook by the FTC that the company "deceived consumers by telling them they could keep their information on Facebook private, and then repeatedly allowing it to be shared and made public." Now, the company must be audited by third-party privacy firms every two years to ensure that Facebook holds a privacy program that meets the FTC's order.

Of course, this means that it will be much more difficult for Facebook to push changes like, say, the Facebook Games Ticker, which blasts in-game activities without the player so much as clicking a "Share" button. Sure, this likely means that no future Facebook change will ever reach 100 percent of its users. But we also don't like it when everyone and their mother knows exactly when we log into CastleVille every day.

Are you behind these changes to Facebook? Have you ever been a victim to Facebook's changes to your privacy when it comes to gaming?

The Sims Social Pic of the Day: Alan5779's Hong Kong apartment

You learn things about decorating when you live in a shoebox apartment on a small island of 7 million people. Real estate is at a premium, where a 150 square foot room can cost you $263,157 USD. I'm talking about Hong Kong, which is my birthplace, but also the real world residence of The Sims Social player, Alan5779.

Using the stacking method, Alan5779 managed to cram everything his Sim needs into a tiny 6x6 room in the game. Sometimes, game updates cause glitches to occur, so he's had to redesign his room several times to make sure his Sim still had space to interact with his furniture, but as you can see from the screenshots, he's clearly succeeded.

Alan's may be the first to come up with a fully functional, tiny apartment in The Sims Social, but one Hong Kong architect did it in real life by transforming his 344 square foot apartment into 24 rooms by using sliding walls. Party houses, these ain't. But they're certainly what Alan has taken to calling his "Nano Kingdom".

Zynga may soon name its price, as its IPO road show starts Monday

Interested in buying up a chunk of Zynga, eh? Well, the FarmVille maker just may name its price very shortly, as Fortune reports that the company will begin to pony around to investors next Monday. And with that, Zynga will likely make another amendment to its S-1 filing with the Security and Exchanges Commission (SEC) that would reveal its asking price for public shares along with how many shares will be made available.

Zynga filed for its initial public offering (IPO) way back in June of this year, and it finally looks like it's time to pull back the curtain and start taking offers. According to Fortune, company CEO Mark Pincus will join COO John Schappert (of EA fame) and CFO David Wehner in the dog and pony show to get investors excited about diving into Zynga, or ZNGA as it will appear on the Nasdaq.

The creator of top social games like CityVille seeks to raise $1 billion as a result of its IPO. Some expect a valuation, or projected worth of a company based on several factors, between $15 and $20 billion. That would make Zynga not only the most valuable social games company in the world, but the most valuable game company. Period. Well, that is if investors can look past Zynga employees driven to tears under company pressure.

If given the chance, would you ever invest in Zynga? Do you the company could become the most valuable game maker in the world?

Sims Social Last Chance items: Buy 'em now before they're gone forever

The Sims Social is getting ready to clear out the in-game store of a bunch of old items, in preparation for what we suspect will be oodles of holiday themed goods that will be vying for your hard-earned Simoleons and SimCash.

While we've seen limited edition items come and go in other games, this is the first time we've seen such a comprehensive store clearance -- including chairs, doorways, wallpapers, etc. So, if you're a big fan of the Small Aspen tree, Numica Retro Sofa and Chairs or WinDoh Aqua, now is the time to stock up. It also looks like the Portrait Easel will also be making a hasty retreat, so if you don't want to miss out on taking your Sims' Art skills to higher levels, go buy it right now.

This Mario Kart 7 ad has real Mario Karts (and some CG) in it [Video]

Mario Kart 7 ad
Have you seen this recent ad for Mario Kart 7 on the picture box? It sure looks like it was done using CG (computer graphics), doesn't it? Well, not as much as you might think. The ad team behind this Nintendo game advertisement likes to do things old school, apparently, and released a behind-the-scenes video showing that the ad was made using real, customized go-karts.

Better yet, one of those real Mario Karts actually did one helluva jump off of a ramp in the making of this 35-second video. The 13-year-old inside you is probably already crying to mom that he just has to have this game when it hits the 3DS Dec. 4. As for us, we're more interested in getting our hands on one of those legit karts. Who knows, maybe they'll pay Times Square a visit. Check out both videos below:

Are you surprised that this ad was made using real go-karts? Do you plan on picking up Mario Kart 7 when it hits this weekend?
